When The Community Doesn’t Support A Community Benefits Agreement

The first major piece of the Atlantic Yards development in Brooklyn, The Barclay’s Center arena, officially opens tonight with a Jay-Z concert and will host Brooklyn Nets home games during the upcoming pro basketball season. The development saw a CBA signed with community groups in 2005–but as the project turns toward the next phases of the development, many in the community say the CBA does not represent all of the community and is unlikely to be amended or enforced by the signatories since the original groups receive significant funding from the developer.
