A Lesson From NYC’s Other Big CBA–Atlantic YardsPosted: October 30, 2013
Republican candidate for Mayor Joe Lhota recently criticized Democratic candidate Bill DeBlasio for accepting sizable campaign contributions from the developer of the Atlantic Yards project in Brooklyn–while not putting his feet to the fire to build promised affordable housing.
Lhota says the takeaway lesson for negotiating CBA’s is this:
“If a developer promises X number of jobs and they don’t provide those jobs, you take back, or you reduce or eliminate whatever benefit you were giving them,” he said. “I learned that at the M.T.A.. What I would do as mayor is make sure that there is a contract that benefits both sides. If someone achieves goals, they get benefits, if not, they owe us.”
